     In the Health Science & Medical Technology pathway, students can take the following courses.

     

    Medical Terminology (MT100)

    Grade Levels: 11, 12
    UC/CSU Approved:  G – Elective
    BUHSD Graduation Requirement: Electives

    This course is an introduction to basic principles of medical terminology and vocabulary needed to work in the healthcare field with an emphasis on spelling, pronunciation, abbreviations, and definition of medical terms.  Comprehensive medical vocabulary will be related to the body systems and medical specialties.  

     

    Public & Community Health (MT200)

    Grade Levels: 11, 12
    UC/CSU Approved:  G – Elective
    BUHSD Graduation Requirement: Electives

    In this course, students acquire knowledge, skills, practice, and experience through project-based learning.  They analyze social, behavioral and ethical aspects of public and community health and will formulate plans to improve the health of their community. In addition, they conduct an in-depth study of illnesses, assess their community environment for possible health risks and evaluate the emergency medical service in their community for its ability to handle a disaster.

     

    ROP Nursing Assistance (RP115)

    Grade Levels: 12 (students must be 16 yrs.)
    BUHSD Graduation Requirement: Electives

    This course trains students for entry-level placement in health service occupations. Students study a broad curriculum in medical occupations, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation practices. Students are taught professional ethics and patient relationship skills in a classroom setting and practical application in a medical facility. Students who successfully complete the course have the opportunity to take the state exam for certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.  Please contact the instructor for more details on enrollment.
